Slow and Strong Yoga

This class is taught by:

Lyn Kirkman

Lyn Kirkman – RYT200

Lyn started her yoga journey in 2015 while searching for a more spiritual way to connect with herself and deal with the struggles of life. She remembered hearing about yoga and its benefits as a college student but never sought it out while in school. Yoga ended up finding her and it wasn’t long before she fell in love with how it made her feel mentally, physically, spiritually and has been practicing ever since. While searching for ways to deepen her practice she found a wonderful teacher training program and wasted no time jumping in.
Lyn has a passion for sharing the knowledge she’s found on her journey and believes by sharing yoga’s joy and positive benefits, along with her personal experiences, she can help others better navigate life’s ups and downs. Yoga transformed her life and helped her rebuild the courage and confidence she thought had been lost and encourages others to be a part of the same transformation.

Lyn is continuing her journey to deepen her practice and education as she starts on her RYT500. She is forever grateful for her experiences thus far and for being given the opportunity to share the powerful and joyful yoga experience with others.

Whitney Blair

Whitney Blair, RYT200

Whitney is a Florida native who moved to Saint Petersburg after graduating from Florida Gulf Coast University with a B.A in Anthropology and Minors in Art and Philosophy. She is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Global Sustainability from the Patel College of Global Solutions at USF and will be graduating December of 2017.

Whitney has been practicing yoga since 2005 and in 2016 graduated with her 200YTT through Adiaya Yoga Sanctuary. Yoga has taught Whitney that one does not always have to swim upstream, sometimes we can just enjoy where the river takes us and trust in life's journey. More than anything, Whitney desires to dedicate her time to a meaningful purpose and yoga allows her to do just that.

Kathy Perna

Kathy Perna LRY 200, Chair Yoga Certification

Kathy’s journey began originally in Providence R. I. and settled her in St. Petersburg for the last 30 years. It wasn’t long before Kathy became a Yoga enthusiast once she understood the connection between stress in the workplace and balancing everyday life. With the support of her wonderful family she became a certified instructor in 2012 and while still in the workplace enjoyed teaching fellow employees the great benefits of yoga practice. She recently retired from the financial industry after 20 years and opened a small property management firm with her husband and wants to contribute to teaching a practice of “following your heart.” She brings a soft yet fun style that will be sure to delight you in your personal yoga practice.

This class is ideal for almost all levels of physical fitness - from the beginner to advanced, or younger to older student - or simply those seeking a more active lifestyle. As we allow ourselves to take our time in a slower-paced yoga practice, we find that our muscles become more supple, our breath deepens, enlivens, and invigorates, and our entire being shifts towards a state of greater balance.

Liberal use of yoga props will be demonstrated throughout the class. But since this is a moderately active and “flowing” style of yoga, if you are more physically fit or experienced you can forgo the use of some props and aim for a more challenging workout.

Stay at your own pace, do only what you feel comfortable with, use yoga props, and take breaks whenever YOU need them. Variations will be given for each posture so that the student can tailor the practice to his or her needs, abilities, or physical limitations. Intermediate intensity with some yoga experience recommended.
